The world of Airdrie Craft Beer continues to grow each month. On a regular basis, we have people enter our brewery for the first time despite us being open for 3+ years. This is so cool to us because it means we get to introduce, educate, and enjoy time with these new folks to help create a great Craft Beer experience in our city.
But with so many styles to enjoy in the world of Alberta Craft Beer, what do you even suggest to try first?
At our brewery, we have 12 beers on the list at any given time which presents a lot of unique ways to give an introductory tour. But one beer that we continually suggest to our new visitors is our award-winning Range Road Red Ale. This beer is an Irish Red Ale with notes of Carmel, a light herbal taste, and a sweet dry finish. It’s a beer that, for us, is an “any-time ale” and it gives a great example of what we are all about as a brewery.
So let’s talk about what an Irish Red Ale is! Then take a look at the video so you can see what this amazing beer looks like once poured.
Irish red ales are an essential part of any beer enthusiast’s repertoire. A staple of Irish pubs and brewpubs, these malty, lightly hopped ales are perfect for sipping while enjoying a chat with friends.
Irish red ales are characterized by their rich, deep red color and roasted malt flavor. This maltiness is balanced out by a mild bitterness from hops, which adds a subtle yet refreshing aftertaste.
Most Irish red ales are made with pale malt and roasted barley. This combination provides the beer with its characteristic dark red hue and a full-bodied flavor. Other types of malt, such as crystal or chocolate, may also be used to add complexity and depth.
The hops used in Irish red ales are typically traditional bittering varieties, such as Challenger or Fuggles, as well as aromatic varieties like Cascade or Willamette. The inclusion of aromatic hops not only adds to the hoppy character of the beer but also helps to balance out the malty sweetness.
In terms of alcohol content, Irish red ales are generally lower than other styles of beer. Most range from 4-5% alcohol by volume (ABV). This makes them a great choice for those who want to enjoy a few beers without feeling too heavy.
When looking for an Irish red ale, expect to be greeted by a deep red color and smooth malty flavor. These beers are great for sipping and sharing with friends, so don’t be afraid to bring a few in to see us when you’re heading out for a night of fun.
No matter what your beer preferences may be, Irish red ales make a great addition to any beer lineup. With their easy-drinking character and smooth flavor, they’re sure to please even the most discerning of beer enthusiasts. So if you’re growing into the Craft Beer world and don’t know where to start, try giving an Irish red ale a shot and discover a beer that’s as timeless as Ireland itself.
Cheers!
